Food: microwave chocolate [nutella] cake in a tumbler

A recent trip to Ikea along with unnecessary purchases included this beautiful blue and white porcelain tumbler. Designed to have a heavy and flat bottom this vessel was perfect for a microwave mug cake. This recipe is perfect for a sudden chocolate indulgence. It also comes close to a soufflé. Oh did I mention this cake has Nutella in it! You can also make this recipe as a gourmet dessert just by making individual cakes in small ramekins.

Ingredients,

4 tbsp flour :: 1/4 tsp baking powder :: 1/4 tsp baking soda :: 3 tbsp cocoa powder
3 tbsp nutella :: 3 tbsp milk :: 1 tbsp sugar :: 2 tbsp olive oil :: 1 egg
1 tsp flaxseed :: pinch of salt ::  nuts for sprinkling

If you are using unsweetened cocoa powder, then use 2 tbsp sugar. If it is sweetened, then stick to the 1 tbsp.

Take everything in a small container and mix well with a fork until smooth. Pour all the mixture into your mug or tumbler. The cake will rise half it's size. So make sure you are not filling up your vessel that will go in the microwave. Sprinkle with the nuts.

Microwave first for 1 whole minute. Do not stop this process under any circumstance. This is the actual cooking and rising time. If you like a liquidy center like a soufflé then this is it. If not, then cook for an extra 30 seconds. And it's done! Bon appétit!

  1. That looks really good. I'm going to alter the recipe to make it vegan.
