Food: green coconut on a sweltering summer afternoon

If you are from the continent of Asia, you need to explanation to what an absolute delight this is. To the rest of you this is where fresh coconut water comes from. Aside the cool refreshing drink that this hard shell holds in its infinite layers of husk - lies a white flesh that line the inside shell. When the green coconut is cut off from the tree it is prepared like the image below for drinking straight out of the entire shell - most of the time without a straw aka chug. And then it is cracked open with a one swift yet strong blow of a large machete. And thats when the pulp is indulged. Several Indian/Asian places serve these nowadays and you can even find these at some produce markets. Coconut water is now easily available in cartons at major grocery stores and they taste divine.
